Saving Orphaned and Injured Wildlife

Raising orphaned wildlife requires a lot of food and supplies. You can help SMWRC help orphaned wildlife by donating any of the following items. You can also make a cash donation and specify the item that you would like your donation to be used to purchase.

To keep the babies warm and comfortable, SMWRC uses cotton receiving blankets, old fashioned cotton diapers, baby-safe stuffed animals, fleece bedding and towels.

During a typical season, SMWRC will need 400 jars of pureed baby fruits and vegetables (apples, pears, apricots, mixed berries, bananas, sweet potato and carrots) and 50 jars of pureed baby meats (chicken and turkey).

Baby animals sleep in special enclosures lined with disposable cage liners, or puppy pads. SMWRC uses over 20 of these liners per day.

Baby animals generate a lot of dirty laundry; approximately 3 loads of laundry are done
per day.

Baby animals can be very messy so we use many paper towels to clean and sanitize the cages, countertops and floors. As the baby animals get bigger, we often use papers towels to line their cages.  We can go through a dozen rolls of paper towel in a week.

During a typical Baby Season, SMWRC will also use 50-60 lbs of powdered orphaned raccoon formula, 8 lbs of powdered orphaned opossum formula, 20-40 lbs of powdered orphaned squirrel formula; 8 lbs of powdered orphaned cottontail formula, 2 lbs of powdered orphaned skunk formula, 8 lbs of powdered orphaned groundhog formula and 1 lb of powdered orphaned bat pup formula.
